Here she rests, mid-thought. The afternoon sun falls through the window, past the security bars, onto her white hair and her weathered skin. Painful memories have taken over the last 15 years of her life, but she is a soldier.

Once upon a time, this woman fed me strawberries with sugar on it for breakfast. She used to style hair, collect costume jewelry and model. Now, she wanders her house, from room to room, cleaning, sorting, and giving things away.

Maybe one day she will let me take her to lunch.

"*oldninja posted Grandma, a farewell at the beginning of the month; it's a powerful and moving piece. I was instantly brought back to a time when my grandmother was still alive and sitting in her kitchen lost in her own thoughts. He captured life at it's best and worst only using one subject."
